Sports Day at Northease got off to a flying start with an Olympic style opening ceremony – student teams paraded onto the sports field with house banners and watched a gymnastics performance by Harry Gardner before taking part in their individual track and field events. There was a slight hold up in proceedings while the Lennon team had to swap their yellow t-shirts for school tops as a plague of midges settled on anything yellow in colour, including their house flag!
The atmosphere was electric as students cheered on their team mates in front of a packed crowd of parents and staff.
Awards for key sporting values were distributed at the awards ceremony. Sports captains nominated a student from a rival team who had excelled in key areas of sporting effort, such as self belief, teamwork, determination, respect, honesty, and passion. Congratulations to all our sportsmen and sportswomen!
After a break in the sunshine with refreshments provided by Friends of Northease, the Swimming Gala followed. All students swam to the best of their ability in the races and team relay, encouraged by Mr Sanday’s commentary.
As always, the ‘biggest splash’ competition produced the loudest cheers and soaked those parents sitting in the Splash Zone.
The 2015 Student Sports Committee will look to encourage students to take part in different sports in the coming school year and to build on the school’s success in inter-schools competitions across the South East.
