Typical School Day

Registration:

School starts at 8.30am each day and finishes at 4.00pm. Any student who is late for any reason should report to the office upon arrival. All students should assemble at their tutor group area for registration and then follow the tutor programme to prepare the day ahead. 

If your child is unwell or unable to come to school for any reason, please let the main office know as soon as possible. It is school policy to telephone parents daily, if we have not received a reason regarding student absence.

 

 

Everyday begins with 20 minutes in tutor groups along with a further 20 minutes after lunch.

Monday -  All students check that parents have signed student planners and that each student has everything they need for the start of the school week.

Tuesday - Independent Reading. 

Wednesdays - Mid-week whole school assembly.

Thursdays - Independent Reading.

Friday - Afternoon whole school celebration assembly.

 

 

Break & Lunchtime

There is a morning break of 20 minutes and lunchtime break of 40 minutes. At break and lunchtime the students are able to spend time inside or out (weather permitting) and are supervised at all times, with a range of activities on offer for the students at these times.  Lunch is a cafeteria-style service for all years, each table has a member of  staff.

Homework

Homework is given to all students from years 5 to 11 and will vary according to their age and ability. Students from years 5 to 9 will be set work each day from Monday to Thursday and years 10 and 11 each day from Monday to Friday. 

The amount of time to be spent each night is as follows:

     Years  5 - 7               20-30 minutes per night

     Years 8 - 9                30-45 minutes per night

     Years 10 - 11          60 minutes minimum per night

Students should not spend longer than the recommended time on their work unless it is out of choice.  If your child is experiencing difficulties with homework please contact your child’s tutor, or subject teacher. For some day students the opportunity to stay for ‘Homework Club’ after school may be beneficial.

Homework is written in the student’s planner and can be accessed via the parent portal.
